The Az tribe is a small Seeker tribe founded fifteen years ago out of a disparate band of miqo'te refugees from Ala Mhigo who dreamed of creating a new home for themselves. The tribe is named in honour of Azeyma, traditionally worshipped by both the Seekers and the Belah'dians, whose ancient city now provides the tribe shelter. Their totem is the lion, said to be the sun goddess' favoured creature.

The Az tribe began with a single colony: the Nine Claws colony, named in honour of the ancient archon Nyunkrepf. They hold territory in the Belah'dian ruins. They maintain cordial relationships with their neighbours: the Broken Water colony of the U tribe to the west, and the Brotherhood of Ash to the south. In recent years, other settlements of Seekers around Eorzea have joined the Az tribe, united by their origins as refugees and outcasts.

I'naaya Modh

I'naaya is the leader of the Nine Claws colony. Her home tribe, the I tribe, was destroyed by strife when she was twelve years old. She survived on the city streets of Ala Mhigo, learning to adjust to the unfamiliar culture she was suddenly thrown into. She met P'vhoza after the imperial annexation, and together they left Ala Mhigo, travelling around Eorzea for a while before settling in Mor Dhona. But after the Battle of Silvertear Skies, she, along with the many other refugees who had built a home in Mor Dhona, were once again displaced - this time to Little Ala Mhigo. There she proposed a plan to her fellow Seeker refugees to start a new tribe out in the Thanalan desert. She is an exceptionally skilled hunter.

P'vhoza Nuhn

P'vhoza is the current nuhn of the Nine Claws colony. He was raised in Ala Ghiri outside of the tribal lifestyle, and he originally bore the surname of Threadgold, belonging to his hyuran stepfather. During the annexation, his stepfather defected to the Garleans, and persuaded him to come along. Under the Garlean regime, he was named Vhoza aan Potitus. He studied for the imperial engineering corps, but struggled from the lack of support and belonging. He met I'naaya during this time. When P'vhoza failed his entrance examination, his stepfather kicked him out. He and I'naaya left Ala Mhigo together, and three years later they met X'rhun in Mor Dhona.

He is a capable engineer and architect who maintains the colony's homes, as well as the temple of Azeyma which protects the balance of environmental aether in the colony's territory.

X'rhun Tia

X'rhun was the first nuhn of the Az tribe. He left home at sixteen and went on to found the Crimson Duelists with his fellow adventurers. X'rhun continued to fight for Ala Mhigo after the annexation, but after half a decade, his obsessive pursuit of revenge against Lambard had taken a toll on his body and spirit. He retreated to Mor Dhona, where he met I'naaya and P'vhoza, his future soulmates (a soulmate triad made of a woman, a tia, and a nuhn is considered exceptionally rare and fortunate).

He assumed the role of the Az tribe nuhn for its first three years, before he voluntarily relinquished the position so he could once again don the mantle of the Crimson Duelist. Though he now spends his days travelling all across Eorzea, the Az tribe still considers him an honoured member, and welcomes him whenever he visits home.

X'loyi Khet

X'loyi is one of the Az tribe's founding members. She and X'rhun are half-siblings, sharing the same father. She was five summers old at the time of the annexation, and was the only one of her family that managed to escape the city. She travelled with other orphaned refugees from place to place until she was fatefully reunited with another member of her tribe in Little Ala Mhigo. Though they had never met before, she and X'rhun quickly bonded as siblings.

U'samynn Rozhet

U'samynn is a skilled conjurer and healer. She comes from the Broken Water colony of the U tribe, being the only one of twenty-three sisters to have a knack for conjury rather than thaumaturgy. They studied medicine in the Sharlayan colony, before returning home to share their new knowledge. They joined the Nine Claws colony for the first year to help the new tribe establish itself, but ended up staying permanently.

J'kholya Rhai

J'kholya came from a highly traditional colony of the J tribe. After the Garlean annexation, her colony responded by retreating further into isolation and strictly reinforcing tradition, which she found stifling. She was exiled for willfully having a child with a tia. She left Ala Mhigo with him, but the tia who she thought was her soulmate ended up leaving her. Alone and with child, she found the world outside of the tribes difficult to adjust to. Eventually she made her way to Little Ala Mhigo and befriended I'naaya, who invited her to join her new tribe in the future.

Az'ranmaia is the daughter of I'naaya, P'vhoza, and X'rhun. Though P'vhoza is her biological father, she was given the name of the nuhn at the time she was born. She plans on finding X'rhun and asking for his tutelage in the art of red magic once she becomes old enough to leave the tribe.
